Why more and more patients choose Albania for dental treatment

It is not a question of lower quality, but of different running costs. Here is what really changes, and what does not.

Cost of living, not cost of care

The lower price comes from the cost of labour, property and running a practice in Albania, not from the materials or the skills. The implants and prosthetics are the same ones used across Western Europe.

European standards and materials

Albania is a candidate for European Union membership and applies aligned health regulations. We use materials with traceable CE certification and the brand stated up front.

Genuinely close

Tirana is around three hours' flight from London and Manchester. Direct connections from several UK airports, one hour ahead of UK time, and no visa needed: a valid passport is enough.

Clinicians trained abroad

Many Albanian dentists trained or specialised in Italy, Germany and other European countries, and work to the same clinical protocols.

No language barrier

Our clinical staff and your dedicated coordinator speak English, from your first question until you are back home.

Short waiting times

There are no waiting lists: treatment is scheduled around your dates. You usually go from first assessment to procedure within a few weeks.

How much you really save

Typical UK private-practice prices for the same treatments, with materials of the same standard. Your final quote depends on your clinical case and is confirmed in writing.

Be careful with quotes that look too cheap

A price far below the market average is almost never a bargain. Before you choose, check that the clinic is genuinely registered, that the materials have a stated brand and CE certification, and that everything included, and everything not included, is put in writing. Our share capital and company number can be verified independently on qkb.gov.al.

Why Tirana has become the most requested destination

Over the past few years Tirana has gone from provincial capital to modern European city, with private clinics investing in technology and training. For an international patient it means finding familiar standards a short flight from home.

  • Direct flights from UK airports: connections from London, Manchester, Birmingham and Bristol. Low-cost fares from around £80 return, booked in advance.
  • A safe, liveable city: a pedestrian centre, restaurants, parks and evening life.
  • Everything a few minutes away: clinic, hotel and city centre are close together. No long journeys between appointments.
  • An affordable cost of living: meals, coffee and getting around cost a fraction of UK prices.
Flight times from the UK to Tirana: around three hours from London

How it works, step by step

From your first message to the check-up after you get home. Nothing is left to you: we handle the organising.

  1. 01

    First contact and online consultation

You message us on WhatsApp or fill in the form. If you have a recent panoramic X-ray, send it over; otherwise a few photos and a description of your case are enough. The remote consultation is free and with no obligation.

    Same day
  2. 02

    Assessment by the medical team

Our specialists review your situation and set out the possible solutions. If the case is complex (limited bone, previous implant failures) we explain what alternatives exist, including advanced options such as zygomatic implants.

    Within 24 hours
  3. 03

    A written, transparent quote

A treatment plan with every item explained: what is included, what is not, how many days are needed and in how many stages. The price is fixed before you travel and does not change along the way.

    Within 24 hours
  4. 04

    Travel arrangements

We choose the dates together and take care of hotel and transfers; if you book the flight yourself, we tell you the best times to fit your appointments. You receive the full programme before you leave.

  5. 05

    Arrival, examination and treatment

A member of our team meets you at the airport and takes you to your hotel. The following day, your first examination with a 3D CBCT scan and confirmation of the plan. Then treatment begins, following the correct biological timescales.

    5–7 days
  6. 06

    Going home and ongoing support

You go home with written post-operative instructions and your coordinator's direct contact. We stay reachable on WhatsApp 7 days a week, and we plan the check-ups and any second stage together.

    Ongoing support

Start with the first step: your free assessmentMore than 3,000 international patients have already taken this path.

How many trips are needed, and for how long?

It depends on the treatment. Choose your case and see how the stay is organised.

First trip · 5–7 days

Surgery and temporary fixed teeth

Examination with a 3D CBCT scan, plan confirmation and implant placement. Temporary fixed teeth are fitted within 48–72 hours, so you go home with teeth.

3–6 months at home

The bone integrates with the implants. Your coordinator stays reachable on WhatsApp.

Second trip · 7–8 days

Final prosthesis

Osseointegration check, try-ins and fitting of your final teeth, made in the in-house laboratory.

Indicative timescales: the exact number of days is set out in your treatment plan.

What is included in the pathway

Dental tourism only works if you have nothing to think about beyond the treatment itself. This is what we take care of.

Online consultation before you travel

Remote assessment of your case, review of your panoramic X-ray and a preliminary treatment plan. Free and with no obligation, before you make any decision.

Flight contribution

Up to £175 towards the ticket for your first visit, for quotes above £4,400. Tirana has direct connections from several UK airports.

Transfers always included

An airport welcome with a private driver and every hotel–clinic–airport journey. No taxi to find, no language to work out.

Hotel for two people

Free accommodation for quotes above £2,600, for the whole duration of your treatment. You can bring someone with you at no additional cost.

A dedicated English-speaking coordinator

One person looks after you before, during and after treatment, 7 days a week. Always the same person: you will not have to explain your case again each time.

Documentation and invoice

Your treatment plan, post-operative instructions and a valid, itemised invoice, useful for your own records and for any private dental insurance claim.

About the hotel, to be straight with you

We accommodate you at the Mercure Tirana, a 4-star hotel. During fully booked periods the alternative is the Light Hotel Tirana, 3-star, also centrally located. In both cases we confirm in writing which hotel before you travel: no surprises on arrival.

Sterilisation and safety protocols

This is the question patients ask most often, and it deserves a concrete answer rather than general reassurance.

  • Instruments sterilised in an autoclave

Steam sterilisation cycles with cycle traceability. Single-use instruments are used once and disposed of.

  • Materials with traceable CE certification

Every implant has a stated brand and an identifying reference. You are given the documentation: you will always know what has been placed.

  • Anaesthetic consultation

An assessment with the anaesthetist is always included. If required, sedation can be prescribed, based on your medical records.

  • Part of a real healthcare group

Sorriso Sicuro is part of a group that includes AlbaDent (dental distribution), CFO Pharma (pharmaceutical distribution) and a private hospital.

Price locked in writing

The final quote is confirmed after the clinical examination and does not change along the way. Anything not included is explained beforehand.

Between appointments, the time is yours

Appointments do not take up the whole day. Many patients use the free hours to explore the city: that is what makes dental tourism an experience rather than just a medical trip.

Everything within reach

Restaurants, shops and attractions are close to the hotel and the clinic.

A city worth discovering

The pedestrian centre, Bunk'Art, the Dajti cable car and Albanian cooking.

Recovery without rushing

We leave the time needed to recover. If you need to rest, the pace adapts to you.

Bring someone with you

The hotel is for two people, at no additional cost.

Discovering Tirana: the city, the food, the free time

Tirana is a walkable city. It is a few minutes from the hotel to the clinic, and within a short walk you find the pedestrian centre, the markets and the restaurants. Albanian cooking is Mediterranean: vegetables, Adriatic fish, fresh cheeses, olive oil.

Pazari i Ri, the new market

Fruit, spice and cheese stalls, surrounded by trattorias serving authentic Albanian food. The right place for your first evening.

Blloku, in the evening

The former party district, now the area for cafés, wine bars and contemporary cooking. A full dinner with wine costs around £13–22 per person.

Skanderbeg Square and Mount Dajti

The pedestrian square with the History Museum and the Et'hem Bey Mosque; then the cable car up Mount Dajti in 15 minutes.

Coffee, a ritual

One of the highest densities of coffee shops in Europe, and the espresso is Italian-style. A coffee costs around £1.

Worth trying

Traditional dishes

Tavë kosi (baked lamb with yoghurt), fërgesë (peppers, tomato and fresh cheese), byrek savoury filo pastry, qofte meatballs and grilled fish from Durrës.

After surgery

What you can eat in the first few days

Warm, soft food: soups, mashed potato, yoghurt, eggs, flaked fish, fresh cheeses. Avoid very hot, crunchy or spicy food and alcohol. The hotel restaurant prepares suitable dishes on request.

What it costs

The bill, in practice

Lunch in a trattoria £5–9, a full dinner in the centre £13–22, coffee around £1, a taxi across the city £3–4.

An honest word

The reason you are coming to Tirana is still the treatment: appointments take priority and the clinical programme does not move for a day out. That said, there are free hours between appointments, and it would be a shame to waste them shut in a hotel. Your coordinator will tell you what to see and where to eat based on the days you have and how you are feeling.

The most common questions about dental tourism in Albania

The questions patients ask us most often, with concrete answers.

Is dental tourism in Albania safe?

Yes, provided you choose a serious clinic. We work to European protocols, with instruments sterilised in an autoclave with traced cycles and materials carrying CE certification. We are a registered, verifiable company: Albadent Group SHPK, VAT/NIPT L62217032L, share capital €700,000 fully paid up, checkable on qkb.gov.al.

How much do you save compared with the UK?

Typically 70–85% for the same materials and clinical standards. A full-mouth rehabilitation that easily exceeds £25,000 privately in the UK can start from around £6,200 in Albania. The final quote always depends on your case and is given to you in writing before you travel.

Why does it cost less? Is the quality lower?

No. The difference comes from the cost of labour, property and running a practice, which is significantly lower in Albania. The implants and prosthetic materials are the same international brands used across Western Europe, with the same CE certification.

How many trips are needed and how long are they?

For implant treatment, usually two trips: the first of 5–7 days for surgery and temporary fixed teeth (fitted within 48–72 hours), the second of 7–8 days after osseointegration (3–6 months) for the final prosthesis. For veneers, crowns or whitening, a few days and a single trip are enough.

Who arranges flights, hotel and transfers?

We do. The hotel for two people is free for quotes above £2,600 and transfers are always included. For quotes above £4,400 we contribute up to £175 towards the ticket for your first visit. You book the flight yourself, on the dates you prefer: we tell you the best times.

How can I trust a clinic abroad?

Check for yourself. Look up the company registration on qkb.gov.al, read the 500+ verified reviews on Google Maps, watch the patient video testimonials. If you would like, we can put you directly in touch with people who have already been through the same pathway.

Is English spoken at the clinic?

Yes. A dedicated English-speaking coordinator looks after you before, during and after treatment, 7 days a week, and our clinical staff speak English.

What happens if I have a problem after I get home?

Your coordinator stays reachable on WhatsApp. Implants carry a 10-year guarantee, with scheduled check-ups and English-speaking aftercare at no extra cost. We give you the brand and reference of the implants placed, so any dentist can intervene if needed.

I have little bone: can I still have implants?

In most cases, yes. Even with significant bone loss we carry out advanced procedures with zygomatic and pterygoid implants, which make fixed teeth possible without invasive bone grafts. Send us your panoramic X-ray and we will give you a concrete answer on your case.

Do I need a passport or a visa for Albania?

A valid passport is enough: no visa is required for UK citizens for short stays. Albania is one hour ahead of UK time, so there is no real adjustment to make.

Can I claim the cost back?

We issue a valid, itemised invoice for your records. Some private dental insurance policies contribute towards treatment abroad, so it is worth checking your cover before you travel. If you are resident outside the UK, please check the rules that apply in your own country.

Can I bring someone with me?

Yes, and we recommend it. The hotel included is for two people at no additional cost. Going through significant treatment is easier with someone you trust beside you.

What is the food like in Tirana, and what can I eat after surgery?

Albanian cooking is Mediterranean: vegetables, Adriatic fish, fresh cheeses, yoghurt, olive oil. In the days after surgery we tell you what to choose (warm soups, mashed potato, yoghurt, eggs, soft fish) and what to avoid: very hot, crunchy or spicy food and alcohol. The hotel restaurant and places near the clinic prepare suitable dishes on request.
